Black History Month had and continues to have a major impact in the lives of 91心頭利 community members. Some learned about Black History when they were very young, while others acquired knowledge as college students or adults. All, however, are grateful for the role that Black History Month has played in their lives.

91心頭利 students who traveled to Jackson State University during an alternative winter break trip had in-depth, hands-on exposure to survivors of the May 15, 1970, police shooting, which killed two people; the youngest Freedom Rider, Hezekiah Watkins; and the home of Myrlie and Medgar Evers, a National Monument.

Derailed Norfolk Southern rail cars in East Palestine, Ohio.

91心頭利 Researcher Reviews East Palestine Cleanup

On Feb. 3 in East Palestine, Ohio, dozens of Norfolk Southern rail cars derailed, 11 of which contained hazardous materials. In an effort to start repairing the situation, Arcadis, an international company hired by the railroad company, has developed a plan to clean the air, ground and water in the village. Kuldeep Singh, Ph.D., assistant professor in 91心頭利s Department of Earth Sciences, reviews the cleanup plan.
