Two faculty members from 91心頭利 Universitys School of Media and Journalism have won top honors at the Oscar-qualifying St. Louis International Film Festival for a short film that tackles the complex issue of elder abuse. The film stars Oscar nominee Barkhad Abdi, known for his role in Captain Phillips, as a rideshare driver who encounters an elderly woman struggling to secure housing after being displaced from a nursing home.

Journalism Alumna Wins Associated Press's "Best of the Week - First Winner"
Regina Garcia Cano, a 2011 graduate of the Journalism program and former KentStater editor, was named "Best of AP First Winner" in the week of November 14 for her coverage of the sinking of Venezuelan boats by the U.S. military. Garcia Cano traveled to Venezuela and spoke to locals to learn more about the men on the boats who died in the attacks.
